Being kind and compassionate towards others actually makes us super happy in a number of diverse methods. There are all kinds of things we can do to practice acts of kindness: Say Hello: Smiling at someone you don’t know and just saying this one word can make their day. Do Good Things: Pay for the toll of the person behind you, buy someone a coffee, take a minute to give directions to someone who is lost – even though you are in a hurry, visit a shut in, put a coin in an expired meter, volunteer at a rescue organization. I could go on, but I’m sure you’ve got lots of ideas of our own. Just Listen: Be that friend or neighbor who will take the time to listen. Sometimes people just need to get things off their chest. There are lots of simple things we can do. If we do one little thing each day, we are going to grow our own happiness greatly. 5. Learn To ForgiveIf we let our past define our present, we really never get to live the life we were meant to live – because we are always holding on to what was. Forgiveness is letting go of the past – letting go of our perception that we need to hold on to objections for the rest of our lives. If we hold on to those objections, we will never really be happy. It’s not about letting the other person off the hook, it is giving up the hope that the past could be any different. Forgiveness is accepting that it has happened to you – not accepting that it was ok for it to happen. Forgiving is putting down all of your baggage and leaving it behind. It’s about freeing yourself. Forgiveness allows you to take back your personal power. Pardoning someone does not alter the past, as a matter of fact, it changes the prospect. 6. Kindness Comes Back AroundThis can happen directly or indirectly. Someone might remember that you helped them out last time and therefore be more likely to help you in the future. It can also give such an impact that one individual being kind motivates others in the same group to be even more kind, which eventually uplifts everybody’s emotional state.
